About Butterscotch
Meet Butterscotch, affectionately known as Butters! This sweet Terrier x Shih-tzu mix is looking for a loving home where she can enjoy life's simple pleasures: belly rubs, tasty treats, daily walks, and plenty of affection from her favourite people.
Butters is a calm, loyal companion who enjoys being part of the family's daily routine. She loves approaching people for attention and is happy to spend time with multiple family members, though she also forms a particularly strong bond with her primary caregiver. She doesn't need constant attention, but she'll happily remind you when it's time for a cuddle or belly rub!

Personality Traits:
-
Sweet: Butters is friendly with adults and school-aged children and enjoys approaching people for affection. She may occasionally bark at someone, but this has not been accompanied by aggression.
-
Loyal: She forms strong bonds with her people and loves being included in family activities.
-
Calm: Butters has a moderate energy level and is generally content with a comfortable home, daily walks, and regular opportunities to go outside.
-
Treat-motivated: Chicken jerky is a favourite, and she gets particularly excited about certain foods. Adding wet food to her evening meal is a great way to make dinnertime extra special!
-
Affectionate: Belly rubs are one of her favourite things, and she'll happily seek out her people for a little extra love.
What type of home is she looking for:
Butterscotch would thrive in a home where she can be included in everyday life and receive regular affection without needing constant attention. She could do well with one devoted person or a family with multiple people to love her.
She enjoys meeting smaller dogs and has shown curiosity around guinea pigs. However, she can be nervous around larger dogs and may bark at them, as well as the occasional smaller dog. A thoughtful introduction to other pets will be important.
Butters enjoys getting out for walks and spending time with her people. She also has a funny, playful side that comes out during her daily zoomies! When the mood strikes, she may even use the furniture as her own personal obstacle course.

Training
Butters is fully house-trained and knows sit. She walks on leash and has been comfortable with bathing and routine handling of her ears and paws.
She may have some hearing loss, as she does not appear to respond to sound cues. Her ability to respond to other commands, including come, stay, and down, has not been fully assessed, so adopters should be prepared to communicate with her using visual cues and other approaches if needed.
When left alone, Butters may bark and whine initially but eventually settles. She has been left alone for up to four hours without accidents or damage, and she has been observed resting comfortably while her foster family is away.
One important part of Butters' routine is frequent bathroom breaks. Her new family should be prepared to offer plenty of opportunities to go outside, along with at least one good daily walk.
Favourite Things
Butters loves belly rubs, chicken jerky treats, and spending time with her people. She doesn't play often, but she may grab a crinkly toy when the mood strikes. Her daily zoomies are a special treat for anyone lucky enough to witness them!
